Service Support Worker for the Build on Belief Weekend Service in Tower Hamlets

Hi, I’m Otilija, and I’m a Service Support Worker at BoB. I’ve spent most of my life working in hospitality, a world full of people, stories, and challenges. It taught me the importance of connection, empathy, and patience – skills I now bring into my work supporting people with addictions. Addiction has touched my life personally.

My grandmother struggled with alcoholism, and she passed away from its effects, as did my father. Many other members of my family have also been affected. Addiction has had, and still has, a big impact on my personal life, shaping my experiences, my perspective, and my understanding of the challenges people face every day. I know firsthand how destructive it can be for individuals, families, and friendships. These experiences gave me a deep sense of compassion and a drive to give back.

After COVID, I realised I wanted to use my experiences and understanding to help others. Supporting people on their journeys feels like the perfect fit for me, as I can offer not only guidance but also empathy and understanding. Every day, I have the privilege of walking alongside people, giving them support and encouragement. I believe everyone deserves a chance to heal, grow, and rediscover their strengths – and I feel grateful to be part of that process.
