Service Support Worker Newham

Hello, I’m Jemima, Service Support Worker for Newham.

At one time, I was a service user (SU) myself, way back in the days of 'The Blenheim' in Kensington & Chelsea. I spent 25 years using substances before eventually getting clean and sober in the begin of 2022.

Not too long ago, I joined Acorn Hall as a volunteer and loved every minute of it, especially seeing people getting help in real time. It's an amazing feeling seeing how far I’ve come when surrounded by people I once used with, and hopefully I can show them if I can do it, they certainly can too—they just have to want to.

With all this said, it felt like a natural progression to join Build on Belief as a member of staff, and I’m currently finding my way through and embracing the challenges that brings. I love the whole BoB ethos of lived experience and the potential to go from SU to volunteer to employee.

It is an honour to help the people who helped me. I am excited for the future, which is something I would never have said 3-plus years ago.
